The IGA boasts a new 400 square meters labs, hosted at the Scientific and Technological Park «Luigi Danieli» of Udine and and have two core facilities:
- a DNA sequencing core constituted 4 high-throughput ABI 3730 series capillary automatic sequencers with a capability of about 6 million bases per day, as ‘classical’ long reads of 750 bp
- a new generation Illumina Genome Analyzer system of the latest generation (GAIIx), capable to generate ≥ 9 Gbp of filtered, high-quality data in a single 5 days run, as short DNA reads of 75bp. The system is furnished of paired-module which allows to sequence each DNA fragment of a library from both ends (paired-ends sequencing) in 10 days producing ≥ 18 Gbp of filtered, high-quality data as short reads of 75bp.
- a centre of computational biology, with PCs, servers, parallel computing facilities consisting of more than 450GB of ram, more than 85 CPU cores and ~75 terabytes data storage devices, hosted in a custom rack. The centre has expertise in developing proprietary LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems), DBMS (DataBase Management Systems), tools for the structural analysis of DNA sequences and the functional annotation of genes and other relevant DNA motifs.
