Facilities

The IGA boasts a new 400 square meters labs, hosted at the  Scientific and Technological Park «Luigi Danieli» of Udine and and have two core facilities:

  • a DNA sequencing facility that includes three Sanger sequencers ABI 3730XL, two Illumina GA IIx, one Illumina HiSeq2000. A second HiSeq2000 and a MySeq are being ordered. The genomics lab includes thermocyclers, liquid handling robots, chambers for the bacterial cell culture, and routine equipment. Benches can accommodate up to 20 persons.
  • a computational biology core facility with a 64 bit diskless cluster system and a redundant SAN/NAS data storage system of 128 TB. The cluster consists of 180 CPU-cores, 16 of which have parallel access to 128 GB RAM and form a high performance computation super-node, 650 Gb RAM. The facility is completed by servers for the automatic management of sequencing data and the net management, personal computers connected to the local LAN and a private internal communication infrastructure, accessible from the outside in a secure way. Several browsers to visualize the data of assembly and annotation have been made publicly available.
