The first ILLUMINA new generation sequencer in Italy installed at IGA

20th June 2008

A deep-sequencing instrument of the latest generation, the Illumina Genome Analyzer II (GAII), has been installed at IGA. The instrument is able to generate over 2 billions finished bases in a single 2,5 days run, which represents 2/3 of the human genome and 4x the grape genome. A large range of samples can be analyzed on this instrument, such as whole genome (re-sequencing, genotyping, de novo sequencing of bacterial genomes, ChIP-SEQ, methylation), whole transcriptome (digital gene expression profile, sequencing using a shotgun approach), small RNAs.
