IGA conducts research devoted to explore and exploit the genetic variability of living organisms. Its main fields of activity are:
- the development of molecular and bioinformatic tools for the analysis of structure and function of genomes
- the analysis of genetic resources relevant to the agriculture and non-food crops industry, and the exploitation of this variability in breeding programs.
The activity relies on research projects and contracts granted by public agencies and private companies.
